Zapier + SerpKite

Run a Google search from any Zap with Webhooks by Zapier's Custom Request action, or a few lines in Code by Zapier. An official SerpKite app for Zapier is on the way.

Official Zapier app coming soon

A SerpKite app for Zapier is on our roadmap. The Custom Request setup below works in the meantime.

Overview

What Zapier is, and where SerpKite fits

Zapier connects thousands of apps with trigger → action Zaps. Webhooks by Zapier (available on paid Zapier plans) can send a custom POST to SerpKite and turn the JSON response into fields you can use in later steps.

If you prefer, Code by Zapier runs a short JavaScript or Python snippet and returns just the fields you need.

Setup

Set it up in 4 steps

  1. 1

    Get an API key

    Sign up (no card), create a key in the dashboard and export it as SERPKITE_API_KEY. New accounts get 2,500 free credits, then 1,000 every month.

    export SERPKITE_API_KEY=skt_live_…
  2. 2

    Add a Webhooks by Zapier action

    Choose the Custom Request event. Method: POST. URL: https://api.serpkite.com/v1/news (or any endpoint).

  3. 3

    Set the body and headers

    Data: the raw JSON body, inserting fields from your trigger. Headers: Authorization = Bearer skt_live_… and Content-Type = application/json.

    {"q": "your brand name", "country": "us", "time": "day"}
  4. 4

    Test and map

    Test the step, then map fields like results[].title and results[].link into Slack, Gmail or Sheets.

Code

Code by Zapier alternative

Code steps return only what you need, which keeps later steps simple. Put the key in the step's Input Data as apiKey.

// Code by Zapier (JavaScript). Input Data: apiKey, query
const res = await fetch("https://api.serpkite.com/v1/news", {
  method: "POST",
  headers: { Authorization: `Bearer ${inputData.apiKey}`, "Content-Type": "application/json" },
  body: JSON.stringify({ q: inputData.query, country: "us", time: "day" }),
});
const data = await res.json();
if (!res.ok) throw new Error(data.error.message);

output = data.results.slice(0, 5).map((n) => ({ title: n.title, link: n.link, source: n.source }));
