Buyer's guide
The best SERP APIs in 2026
There's no single best SERP API; there's a best one per workload. This guide picks one per use case from published features and list prices, and says what each pick costs you. Measured latency and success rates will be added when our first public benchmark run ships.
We make SerpKite
Ranking
Our picks, by use case
-
Built around what an agent consumes:
format=markdownorcompact, fields=projection and a token-estimate header, an official MCP server and native LangChain and CrewAI tools.Strengths
LLM-ready output, credits that never expire from $1.00 → $0.60 per 1k, and failed or empty requests never billed.
Watch out for
A new vendor with no published benchmark yet, Google-only until Q1 2027, and no SOC 2 yet.
-
100+ APIs and the deepest SERP-feature parsing on the market, with SOC 2, a $2M legal shield, 11 SDKs and strong support.
Why it wins this use case
The widest engine and widget coverage, plus the paperwork procurement asks for.
Trade-offs
The most expensive option here ($15–25 per 1k at entry), monthly resets, hourly caps and ongoing litigation.
-
A minimal API that many framework docs already wire in, with a 1–2 s latency claim and packs down to $0.30 per 1k.
Why it wins this use case
It's already in LangChain, CrewAI, Dify and Flowise examples, and large packs are cheap.
Trade-offs
Credits expire after 6 months; no official SDKs or MCP.
-
Light plans reach $0.29 per 1k around 1M and $0.136 at best, with Google AI Mode, Lens and Trends in the same family.
Why it wins this use case
The best public volume price in this guide.
Trade-offs
Monthly credits and AI Overview only on the Advanced plan.
-
5$0.60 / 2.00 → $0.60 / 2.00 / 1k
DataForSEO
Best for: SEO platforms and rank trackers that can wait minutes
An SEO data back end with standard queue ($0.60), priority and live ($2.00) modes, plus keywords, backlinks and on-page data. Credits never expire.
Why it wins this use case
Queue pricing built for bulk, and datasets beyond SERPs.
Trade-offs
The standard queue takes about 5 minutes; live mode is slow and pricey for agents; dense docs.
-
6$4.00 → $1.00 / 1k
SearchApi
Best for: AI-visibility (GEO) tracking across ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini
About 60 engines, including answer-engine APIs you can use to track how brands appear in AI answers.
Why it wins this use case
Answer-engine endpoints available today, plus a broad engine list.
Trade-offs
$4.00 → $1.00 per 1k with monthly credits; a defendant in SerpApi's suit.
-
7$1.50 → custom / 1k
Bright Data / Oxylabs
Best for: Enterprises that already buy proxies
Proxy networks with SERP APIs on top, covering many engines and offering Markdown and AI-answer scrapers under one contract.
Why it wins this use case
Own IP supply, scale and enterprise procurement.
Trade-offs
KYC can take days, dashboards are complex, and entry is $1.00–1.50 per 1k; Oxylabs is named in the Reddit suit.
-
8$7.50 → enterprise / 1k
Tavily
Best for: Agents that want pre-cleaned content rather than Google's ranking
AI-native search with its own index that returns extracted content and an optional answer. Owned by Nebius since February 2026.
Why it wins this use case
Search, extraction and an answer in one call; a default in many agent templates.
Trade-offs
$7.50 → $5.00 per 1k, not Google results, and query-data usage clauses.
-
Neural search for queries like "companies like X", with 180 ms–1 s claimed latency and page contents in the same call.
Why it wins this use case
Semantic queries, latency and contents in one response.
Trade-offs
$7.00 per 1k flat, not Google results, and query-data usage clauses.

Public list prices for Google web search, verified on vendor pages on 2026-09-28. "Entry" is the ~$50 pack or plan (SerpKite also has a $10 pack at $1.00 per 1k). SerpKite's self-serve packs stop at 500K credits; larger volumes are quoted on request. Expiring credits raise the effective price if you don't use them in time. See SerpKite pricing.
Methodology
How we rank
We rank by fit for a use case, not by a single score. For each vendor we look at:
- Effective price: list price per 1k at four volumes, plus credit expiry and whether failed or empty results are billed.
- Correctness: Google parity of the top 10, and resolved destination URLs (after Google's
/gotochange). - Speed and reliability: p50/p95 latency and success rate, counting "200 OK, empty" as a failure.
- Agent ergonomics: output formats, token cost, MCP server, SDKs and framework integrations.
- Terms and trust: spend caps, data retention, DPA, compliance and how data is collected.
Measured results (latency, success rate, URL correctness) come from a reproducible benchmark with a public query set and scripts. Results are published monthly on /benchmarks. Until a run is published there, this ranking uses published features and list prices only, and we don't quote performance numbers.
